Ayurveda & Spring Eating Class

Spring is in the air, and you know the feeling. You want to fling open the windows, stretch, and emerge from the winter’s rest. The days grow longer so we naturally want to shed our winter coats. And…maybe shed a few pounds or winter blahs.  The desire for lightness is universal. And nature is leading the way.
Did you know that what and how we eat can reflect this change of the season and help us to feel more refreshed and light on the inside and out? Join us for a fun workshop on how we can use the wisdom of Ayurveda and mama nature to help usher in spring. We will talk about various ways we can add more greens and tasty smoothies to our diet, focusing on spring flavors and as much local produce as possible. So come with a notebook and your shopping bags! Each participant will be given recipes to make at home and to put a spring in their step.
$10/$5 for Owners. Class size will be limited so sign up soon. Your registration/payment secures your spot in the class. Register and pay here, in person at the co-op, or with your Co-Go online order. Owners receive a $5 discount, as always. We hope to see you there!

NonRecipe Book Talk with Amanda Presgraves

Join us Sunday March 12th from 3:00-4:00 for a conversation about The NonRecipe Book with author Amanda Presgraves. There will be refreshments, NonRecipe Style Snacks, and fun! Leading up to the event we will be selling copies of The NonRecipe Book in-store.

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

“Who am I to write a recipe book when I’ve literally never followed a recipe my entire life?” And so I realized: when have I ever followed a “recipe” for anything?

This is not just a cookbook.

Rather than providing a recipe, The NonRecipe Book is about discovering your own. Half science-half soul, Amanda Presgraves – author, athlete, coach, and food system professional – connects the intersections and complexities surrounding how we eat, think, move and live boundlessly. Choose-your-own-adventure within the pages to unearth:

  • Emerging research and science from leading experts exploring elements of athletic performance, design thinking, self-compassion, the food system, neurodiversity, nutritional and behavior psychology, and mindset development.
  • An expressive and universally-relatable heartfelt memoir exposing personal reflections experienced in pursuit of ambitious dreams.
  • The iterative steps of the NonRecipe process that reflect designing of our unique recipe in life – provoking the reader’s creativity, inner-work and development of the self through the kitchen.
  • Informative illustrations and 26 process-oriented designed NonRecipes that serve as intentionally messy methods and adaptable templates for designing resourceful, connecting, and nourishing dishes for the active mind and body.

The NonRecipe Book invites you to deeply nourish and connect with your whole self. By cultivating self-compassion and -confidence to boldly create and interweaving multi-disciplinary mindsets with a framework for food creation – Amanda Presgraves invites full liberation from the limiting recipes and rules, beginning in the kitchen.

First Friday – Co-op Staff Show

Join us on Friday March 3rd from 5:00-7:00 to view different art pieces from four different Co-op Staff Members!

Denise Kanter Allen will be showing acrylic paintings on cradled wood panel.

Artist Statement: Denise favors acrylic paints for her art making but continues to explore all types of media, as well as collaborating with other artists.

Henry North-Sandel will be showing drawings of Firetruck apparatus made with pencil and colored pencil on paper.

Artist Statement: Drawing fire apparatus  has always been a hobby of Henrys. He draws high-detailed fire trucks designed by him for different areas based on their needs. The drawings for this show were designed for the LA area in California.

Sam Lawson will be using a variety of mediums to depict the unknown and to tell stories.

Artist Statement: Having held a lifelong fascination with horror, fear and the unknown have a deeply rooted place in my life. For as long as I can remember I have experienced frequent and vivid nightmares, and despite the terror they inflicted upon me as a child, I have always felt an innate urge to seek out said terrors. It is through these fascinations that I have found myself as an artist and a creator, having spent the past 15 years of my life primarily teaching myself how to replicate the monstrosities that I have sought out for so long. Art has proven to serve not just as a means for me to explore my interest in and love for fear, but to share it with others as well. My goal through my works is to convey my perspectives and feelings on both horror and life as a whole

Anna Suter will be showing acrylic paintings on canvas of pictures of her car, a 2014 Ford Mustang, in pop art style.

Artist Statement: As an Art major I have dabbled in many media, but I prefer painting. My work explores settings and objects that are important to me. I enjoy the natural world, especially the tropics, and I frequently paint the flora of those warm climates. I have a similar affinity for my automobile—a 2014 Ford Mustang—and I enjoy examining how the parts make up the whole, drawing attention to details which might otherwise be overlooked. Since visiting the Andy Warhol Museum in 2014, I have been influenced by his multiple presentations of the same photographic image, a technique that I employ in a slightly different way. I enjoy playing with how color and the juxtaposition of images affect viewers’ perception of my work and, thus, their understanding of the subject matter.

Light refreshments will be served and Brother’s Craft Brewing will be in store sampling an array of beers. We hope you’ll join us!
