Healing Through Movement

This dance class is intended to get our bodies moving, our blood circulating, and fill our spirits with joy. Come join us as we dance into the new season, using the healing powers of music and choreography to bring out the “fierceness” in us all. Taught by Friendly City Team Member, Talibah Aquil.

Cost is $5, or FREE for Owners. You must sign up either in-store or online to secure your spot – limited space available.

Farm-To-Table PopUp Dinner (Dinner SOLD OUT)

Join Us for a Farm-to-Table dinner on the Friendly City Food Co-op patio. Arrive around 6pm, grab a seat at the picnic table, and plan to enjoy a beautiful meal. Old Hill Cider will be pouring some tasting samples of their beautiful local cider made with apples from Showalter’s Orchards.

Board Of Directors Candidates – Meet & Greet

If you’re an owner and have an interest in guiding the future of the co-op, mark your calendar for August 22 at 6:30 pm. Join us for an informal chat and some snacks along with other potential board candidates. We’ll have current board members and store general manager, Steve Cooke, on hand to meet with and answer your questions.

This is your chance to discover the opportunities and responsibilities involved with being on the Friendly City Food Co-op Board of Directors.

Doggy Days

 

Join us for Doggy Days on Saturday August 17th, from 1-3pm. Your dog will have a great time meeting other pooches, taking a dip in the kiddie pool, and getting some treats. There will also be a special giveaway for all dogs in attendance!

Friendly City Fourth Seed Spittin’ Contest

Join us in downtown Harrisonburg on the 4th of July for a good old-fashioned seed spittin’ contest!
The contest starts at 4:30 – just check in at the desk when you arrive, get your scorecard, and you’ll be spittin’ seeds in no time!

You also get to enjoy some free watermelon.

The contest is broken up into three age groups and includes a distance and an accuracy challenge, so you have a chance to win in either, or both, categories. There will be FIRST, SECOND, and THIRD place winners as well as a BEST OVERALL winner.

Birthday Week June 2-9

We’re turning 8 years old on June 6th!
It’s our birthday, but you get all the presents. 

There will be local vendors throughout the week with samples and new things for you to try:
Thursday, June 6 – Peg’s Salt  11am-1pm
Friday, June 7 – Brothers Craft Brewing  3-6pm
Saturday, June 8 – Route 11 Potato Chips   3-6pm
Sunday, June 9 – Snowing in Space and Sip City 12-2pm

Every day, from June 2 – June 8, we’ll have an in-store giveaway of mystery gift boxes. There will be prizes/treats from at least two different vendors in each gift box and you won’t know what you’ve won until you open it – fun!  You can register for the presents in-store anytime now through June 7th, and you do not have to be present to win.

On Sunday, June 9, we’ll be giving away three Grand Prizes – a Woodstock wagon, an Honest Tea vintage cooler, and a Friendly City Food Co-op Produce Basket. You can register in-store now through June 8th and you must be present to win – at either 2:00pm or 6:00pm on June 9th, when all winners will be announced. If your name is called and you are not present during the second announcement at 6:00pm, another name will be drawn.

 

Zero Waste Kitchen (NOTE: Date has changed)

Join Allie Emerick of Bring Your Own, as she presents a compelling and informative class about how you can reduce and/or eliminate single use plastics from your kitchen. As the owner of a local shop which focuses on providing products and services to help you work toward a zero waste lifestyle, she is willing to share her knowledge and passion for reducing, re-using and recycling.

Upcycling – Making Jewelry From Plastic

Join us for a fun and informative class filled with instructions on how to reuse plastic bags to make jewelry, plarn (plastic “yarn”), and other fun wearable items. $5 or FREE for Owners. Please bring your discarded plastic shopping bags to use in class. Presented by Kari Souder of Friendly City Food Co-op.
