Join us on Friday, April 5th for the First Friday opening of Resurfacing by Jeff Minnich.

Jeff doesn’t have a lot of training in the arts, but has been told that’s not a problem. The last art class he took was in his junior year of high school.  He has always been surrounded by art, artists, and creative people. All of them are a constant source of inspiration for him. Sometimes his head spins from it, which isn’t a problem for him. Things never quite unfold as he initially envisions them in his mind when he embarks on a new endeavor.

Artist Statement: Jeff Minnich paints on “recovered” surfaces like cardboard, plywood, flooring tiles, etc. He works mostly with acrylic paints using a variety of applicators like brushes, sponges, rags, and his hands. He constantly gets told “Just do it on canvas, it will last longer” when doing images on recovered surfaces, but his answer is always “I suppose it would last longer, but the idea of reducing useful waste and the idea of a second chance appeal to me in such a strong way that it is hard to ignore.” He says before the first drop of paint is applied the piece has it’s own dignity and makes it’s own statement about longevity and permanence.
