What Do You Think Makes the Co-op Special/Different?
The Friendly City Food Co-op is hands down one of the best spots in town. It’s my go-to place to show off to visiting family and friends – a true community hub where I always run into a friend!
What makes it special? Its central location in the heart of Harrisonburg, with easy access for those who walk or bike. It connects local farmers with customers, offers the Virginia Fresh Match program to make healthy food more affordable, and constantly adapts because it’s built by and for the community.
Shopping at the co-op feels meaningful. It isn’t just about groceries – it’s about community. With a deep commitment to health, happiness, and sustainability, it offers more than just quality food; it provides resources, education, and connections that help people thrive. Every purchase supports the local economy, strengthens small farms and businesses, and keeps money circulating within our community. It’s a place where you feel valued, supported, and part of something bigger – and for many… the Friendly City Food Co-op is a true safe haven.
Favorite Staff Interaction?
Oh, favorite staff interaction… This feels like a fun moment to poke a little fun at Mackenzie or April for their social media marketing shenanigans, but honestly, I can’t think of one specific moment. It’s tough to choose just one favorite because, truthfully, every visit to the co-op is a great experience. The staff bring such a warm and welcoming energy that even a quick grocery run feels like an opportunity to connect. Whether it’s sharing a laugh, getting a perfect food recommendation, or just having a friendly check-in at the register, those small moments really add up. It’s not about a single interaction, but the ongoing sense of community they help create every day. The staff at the co-op are truly the BEST.
