At Friendly City Food Co-op, we’re more than just a grocery store – we’re a community-driven hub committed to creating positive change in the Shenandoah Valley. One way we do this is through our Round Up for Change Program.

Get with the Program – Round Up for Change

This program was born out of a desire to do more, together. In 2017 we started Rounding Up at the register once a quarter for different local organizations. In 2024 we expanded our program and now Round Up for 11 local nonprofits every year.

Here’s How it Works:

During the first week of every month you have the opportunity to Round Up your total at the register to the nearest dollar (or donate more) for the selected non-profit. At the end of the week 100% of the proceeds + a 25% match from the co-op goes to the local organization so they can continue to do good work in our community!

In 2025 We’re Rounding Up for These Local Non-Profits:

January 5-11 – On the Road Collaborative. Round Up Total: $1205
February 2-8 – Shenandoah Valley Black Heritage Project Round Up Total: $2318
March 2-8 – Church World Service Round Up Total: $1364
April 6-12 – Gemeinschaft Home
May 4-10 – Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition
June 1-7 – Friendly City Safe Space
July 6-12 – Bridge of Hope
August 3-9 – Community Counseling Center
September 7-13 – Blue Ridge Area Food Bank
October 5-11 – Blue Ridge Foster Love
November 2-8 – Open Doors

Your decision to Round Up is not just a transaction – it’s a choice to invest in organizations that support our community and a way to make a real difference with every trip to the grocery store.

Round Up to Give Fresh Anytime!

Give Fresh is a Friendly City Food Co-op initiative that ensures fresh produce reaches those in our community without access. Your donation, of any amount, allows us to use our buying power to purchase local and organic fruits and vegetables by the case and donate them to local food pantries and nonprofits. You can easily contribute by telling the cashier you want to Round Up your next purchase for Give Fresh or make a direct donation to the program fund at the register.

Your Give Fresh donations allow us to donate cases of local & organic fruits and vegetables (the same ones you find on our grocery store shelves) to those in need.
