First Friday – What Are We to Rocks & Mountains? by Megan Medeiros

Join us for First Friday!

Join us on Friday February 2nd for the First Friday opening of What Are We to Rocks & Mountains by artist Megan Mederios.

Mountains hold wisdom. They have withstood all long before us and will withstand all long after us. They hold histories and spirits deep within their ridges. What are we but insignificant in the shadows they cast?
Using Appalachian crochet, What Are We to Rocks and Mountains? explores the magnitude and majesty of mountains and asks the viewer to enjoy the beauty in their own insignificance.

Artist Statement: Megan Medeiros is an Appalachian fiber artist in the Shenandoah Valley. While she engages with a variety of fiber arts, she tends to favor crochet, which she has done since she was a child. All of the pieces in this exhibit were drawn and then crocheted by her. She does art shows and craft sales in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County and online through Instagram and Etsy as Daily Fiber Crafts.

Join us on Friday in the café to meet the artist, see her gorgeous fiber arts, and enjoy light refreshments from the store!

First Friday – Everyday Beauty: Photos from Project 367 by Sandra Parks

Join us on Friday January 5th for the First Friday opening of Everyday Beauty: Photos from Project 367 by Artist Sandra Parks. Come meet the artist, experience the beauty of the mundane, and enjoy light refreshments and snacks in our café.

Artist Statement:

Sandy Parks truly believes that there is beauty in each and every day.
A number of years ago she set out on a Project 365, in which one does something every day for a year. She challenged herself that year to highlight a photo of one thing she found beautiful or interesting each day. Throughout that process, she learned that yes, there is indeed beauty in every day, even in the days that look bleak. Sometimes the beauty is found in one’s own backyard, sometimes it’s found on a dog walk or a bike ride or an adventure. It is also true that if one does something every day, their skills improve. That was the start of her journey as an artist, and sharing a  photo each day became a habit. Parks hopes her photography causes people to pause to appreciate a moment of beauty or to revisit a familiar and loved place. She feels if she can bring a moment of  joy to even one person in a day, it’s a good day.
