What’s Fresh – Suja Juice

Suja

We have another new, exciting and nutritionally enhancing addition to our Produce Department! SUJA Juice is a raw, organic juice company devoted to creating juices perfect for cleanses or a simple supplement to your diet. We here at Friendly City are very excited to be able to bring these juices to you to detox and enjoy! We carry two of their cleanse lines: the first is a complete cleanse, made up of six different flavors, and the second, is a single Master Cleanse juice.

Their Master Cleanse is made up of just four ingredients: water, lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. This is a very common drink for people who are fasting or simply trying to detoxify. Lemons are used for a variety of reasons, they are full of vitamins and minerals, and are available all year round! Similarly, maple syrup is typically available all year, and it is full of both simple and complex sugars, as well as many vitamins and minerals. Finally, cayenne is used to help break up excess mucus in the digestive tract and adds warmth. More information on the Master Cleanse can be found at their website or in the book The Master Cleanser by Stanley Burroughs, available here in our book selection at Friendly City!

The complete 1-5 day cleanse consists of six diverse and delicious SUJA flavors: Glow, Fuel, Purify, Fiji, Green Supreme, and Vanilla Cloud. Before we even got the flavors in, several of us were excited to try the one day cleanse, and once all six were available in the store, I went ahead and took the plunge. I woke up Wednesday morning (which also happened to thankfully be my day off) and drank a cup of water flavored with a bit of Apple Cider Vinegar to start my cleanse. I then proceeded through the first three drinks, Glow, Fuel, and Purify, before 2 o’clock. I felt pretty good, and was conscious of my water intake as well. After going to the gym in the mid-afternoon, (probably not the best idea for a cleanse day), my stomach was growling big time. I caved when I got home, and while I drank Fiji, I also ate a cup of cashews and walnuts. I was a little disappointed that I couldn’t make it the whole day purely on the juices, but I realized that it was better to listen to my body than to blindly follow the cleanse. The good thing about SUJA is they recognize these bodily differences, and do not discourage food consumption if it is absolutely needed. After eating the nuts, I drank Green Supreme for dinner, and topped it off with Vanilla Cloud for dessert. I felt really good at the end of it, albeit a little full from gorging on nuts, but I am glad I was able to complete it for the most part. I think I will try it again and better space out the drinks so that I don’t get too hungry at the end of the day.

What’s my favorite flavor, you ask? I think I am torn between Glow and Green Supreme. I am a big fan of leafy greens, and when combined with tasty fruits, like apples and lemons in Green Supreme, or herbs like mint in Glow, they are both sure hits! And, even if you don’t do the entire cleanse, just adding these yummy juices to your everyday routine can be extremely beneficial. It’s a quick and easy way to add more fruits and veggies to your diet, especially if like me, you don’t own a juicer. Or, if you DO have access to a juicer, be inspired by SUJA and come stock up on organic kale, it’s a Fresh Deal this week! If you have any questions about the juices or the cleanse, feel free to stop in and ask us about it, or check out SUJA’s great website, complete with a comprehensive FAQ, Nutritional Facts, and educational materials!
