Our Round Up Program is Changing in 2024!
We’re thrilled to announce that we’re taking our Round Up at the Register Program to a whole new level! Since 2017, we have rounded up once a quarter, and in 2024 we’re doing more. Starting in January, we will launch our new Round Up for Change Program, where we will be rounding up on the first full week of every month for a different organization from January to November. That’s 11 local organizations a year!
Some things will stay the same, customers will still have the option to round up their total to the nearest dollar (or donate more!). Organizations will continue to receive 100% of the Round Up funds, but now the Co-op will match the total Round Up amount by 25%.
Here’s our 2024 Round Up for Change Schedule:
- January 7-13 – Open Doors
- February 4-10 – Second Home
- March 3-9 – Patchwork Pantry
- April 7-13 – Collins Center
- May 5-11 – Adagio House
- June 2-8 – New Bridges
- July 7-13 – People Helping People
- August 4-10 – Blue Ridge Area Food Bank
- September 8-14 – Boys & Girls Club
- October 6-12 – Blue Ridge Free Clinic
- November 3-9 – Harrisonburg Rockingham Living Wage Campaign
Apply for 2025:
Organizations that meet the below criteria will be considered and can apply here. The deadline for organizations to apply to be considered for 2025 is August 31, 2024 at 11:59 PM.
Organizations must:
- Be registered as a 501(c)(3)
- Be local or serve populations in Harrisonburg or the 5 surrounding counties
- Align with the Friendly City Food Co-op Ends Policy
- Friendly City Food Co-op exists so that the Shenandoah Valley has: a just and vibrant local economy, equitable and friendly relationships, healthy, informed consumers & producers, and a sustainable environment.
Priority will be given to organizations that:
- Reflect the cultural and racial diversity of our area.
- Are nonpartisan.
- Will use this funding for work related to food justice, sustainability efforts, community building, equity and justice, or cooperatives.
- Will use this funding for specific projects rather than general operating costs.
- Have a budget of less than $1 million dollars.
Important notes:
- We will not donate to individuals, national charities, political candidates, or organizations that advance a particular religious belief.
- Organizations that have previously received monetary or in-kind donations from the Co-op will be prioritized below organizations that have not received any benefit.
